What if the ETERNAL destination of our friends hinges solely on our telling them about Jesus, about His substitutionary death on the Cross, and how He’s the ONLY path to Salvation (John 14:6); the only real TRUTH in this life?
Seriously, what if—in this post-modern age that we live in; where truth is mostly subjective—it NOW takes the testimony of a HIGHLY VOCAL Believer, stepping outside their safety zone, as the ONLY chance some people will ever have at Salvation?
I mean, where else are the LOST ever going to hear the Gospel? Churches? Oh, you’ve got to be kidding, right? Anymore, most churches—especially the mega-churches—are nothing more than social clubs, with a cross stuck on top. You’ll notice, these days, most ministers can't even SAY the word JESUS in their message, let alone tell others about His bloody substitutionary death.
Right about now, you’re probably shaking your head, thinking, ‘That isn’t true!’, am I right? I bet you’re thinking, ‘EVERYONE's heard about Jesus and His FREE gift of Salvation'?‘ But you’d be wrong!
Back in early 2005—about a year after my conversion—I had moved back to Chicago from San Diego and was working with my good friend, Eric Lefton, at Foot, Cone and Belding, the ad agency. One day, I popped down to the commissary, for a cup of coffee...and all of a sudden, I find myself in a full-blown conversation with a lady—someone I’d never met before—and I’m telling her how Jesus CHANGED me, a few months earlier. For the life of me, I can’t even remember how the whole conversation started; but then, if you know me, when it comes to talking about Jesus, you look at me cross-eyed, and I’ll chew your ear off for the next 30 minutes.
But I’ll never forget this one thing...as I’m speaking with her, this very nice woman had the most inquisitive look on her face; and she kept shaking her head, from side to side, as if she was having the hardest time grasping the truth of what she considered to be the most unbelievable, improbable tale—after which I finished and she sorta stammered, then said, “That’s the most amazing story I’ve ever heard. I’ve been living and working downtown Chicago for 20 years, and I’ve NEVER met anyone who believes like you.”
And that’s when the Holy Spirit nudged me, and I suddenly realized that—in this wicked age, where Satan works overtime to cloud the minds of good people to the truth of Salvation through Jesus Christ—most people may NEVER actually hear the presentation of the Gospel...that Jesus ALONE Saves through Faith ALONE. That is, unless we tell them.
If not us...then who?
